Leather Care Guide

LEATHER is a natural, organic material and incredibly durable as a rule. With a little TLC you will be able to enjoy your products for very many years. Here are some simple tips to help you care for your treasured items.

General Care

  • Store your leather footwear in a relatively dry dust free environment.
  • Pack them tightly with soft tissue to help keep their shape and prevent them from creasing and cracking. For boots, you can use posting tubes inside the shaft and pack the spaces with soft tissue to keep them upright and free from creases.
  • Polish them regularly with a good quality shoe cream. Rub this deep into the leather with a microfibre cloth, then shine with a polishing glove. This will keep your leather footwear soft and supple and prolong their lifespan. Avoid using shoe wax as this tends to dry the leather which can cause them to crack.

Patent Leathers

All of the above applies for patent leathers except using cream polishes which will dull the glossy finish leaving oily stains and marks making it difficult to clean. Instead use a damp soft cloth to clean only. Do not use general purpose household cleaners as these contain alcohol which will dry the leather causing it to crack over time.

Patent leather should not come in close contact with other textile materials (for instance vegan leather, PVC etc), metallic objects or latex of a different colour, as any such contact may cause discolourations and stains especially in lighter and translucent colours.
